Portraits from Cove Park

In September 2024, I joined a group of incredible women in Cove Park, Scotland for an arts and human rights residency. The experience of the land and community was profound, from which kick started an arts project. The final piece forthcoming, below are some of the early elements - portraits of the women with whom I shared the experience.

Photos from Los Cedros Forest

In May 2024, I had the pleasure of visiting Ecuador’s Los Cedros Forest as a fellow with the MOTH Project at NYU School of Law. As we explored this incredible ecosystem - one of the most diverse in the world - I was struck by the thick interconnectedness of the forest. Deep carpets and layers of life growing on top of each other, decomposing and regenerating in the same moment. Communities of organisms providing energy and life support for each other. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to visit this sacred land. <3 My most sincere thanks to the NYU MOTH team for facilitating this opportunity. Learn more at https://mothrights.org/

Excerpts from The Art of Decomposing

A collection of poems exploring decomposition as life’s next great adventure

Ariel Sim Sea Moss Art of Decomposing Poem

today i feel like sea moss
nourishing, warm, and bright
green and blue hues cast in gold
i float through warm water
a capsule of secret messages & medicine
today i am a buoy of life

Ariel Sim Whale Art of Decomposing Poem

i am an underwater giant
the ocean is my phone
we are connected through the water
so i am not alone
i hear all your construction
vibrating in the sea
i feel you every day
but you do not see me
do you dream about a future
when we perceive more clearly?
i see - i sea - i see - i sea
